Privacy statement

Serious Games Limited ("we", "us", "our") operates mobile and web applications including Plus One, ACTventure, MatchPro and the Serious Games Play membership library. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data we collect
- Account information: name, email address, age, and any profile details you choose to provide (such as a bio or photo)
- Usage data: pages or screens viewed, features used, and interactions within the app
- Device information: device type, operating system version, and anonymous crash/error reports
- Location (city-level only): used to show relevant local events; we do not collect precise GPS coordinates
- Communications: messages sent between matched users within the app
We do not collect payment card details. Any payments are processed by third-party providers subject to their own privacy policies.
2. How we use your data
- To provide and personalise the service (matching, event recommendations, messaging)
- To send important service notifications (matches, account updates)
- To improve performance and fix bugs using anonymised analytics
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Data sharing
We share data only with:
- Service providers who help operate our infrastructure (hosting, authentication, analytics) under strict data processing agreements
- Other users only to the extent necessary to deliver the service (e.g. your display name and profile are shown to a match)
- Law enforcement if required by applicable law
4. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by emailing us (see Section 7). Deleted accounts are removed within 30 days except where retention is required by law.
5. Security
We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed credentials, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children
Our apps are not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location you may have the right to access, correct, port, or delete your personal data, or to restrict or object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, email: [email protected]
UK/EU users may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or their local supervisory authority.
8. Serious Games Play membership
This section covers the Serious Games Play library and the games and apps you open from it.
- Buying a membership: memberships are sold and paid for through Gumroad, which handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. Gumroad gives us your email address, your license key and whether your membership is active, on trial, cancelled or refunded.
- Unlocking the library: when you enter your license key, we check it with Gumroad, and check it again about once a day while you stay signed in, so that cancelled or refunded memberships stop working. We do not keep a database of members. Your license key and email address are kept in a signed cookie on your own device.
- Opening a game: the library gives the game a link that is valid for 24 hours. The game checks that link with the library and does not receive your email address or license key.
- ACTventure gameplay statistics: ACTventure records play events (areas visited, crystals collected, quiz results, session start and end times) and your browser type, under a random ID stored in your browser. We do not link this ID to your name, email address or license key, but because it identifies one browser we treat these statistics as personal data. We use them only to improve the game. Clearing your browser's site data gives you a new ID, and you can ask us to delete the statistics recorded so far (see Section 7).
- Hosting: the library is hosted by Cloudflare and the games by Fly.io. Like any website, their servers process your IP address to deliver pages. The library also loads its fonts from Google Fonts.
We use your licence details to provide the membership you bought, and the gameplay statistics because we have a legitimate interest in improving our games.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use cookies and storage that the service needs to work, so we do not show a cookie banner:
- sg_session (library, 30 days): keeps you signed in as a member. Signing out deletes it.
- sg_token (games and apps, up to 24 hours): shows that you opened the game from the library.
- lic and lic_ok (ACTventure, up to 1 year): only set if you unlock ACTventure directly with a license key.
- Recently played (library, browser storage): the list of titles you last opened. It stays on your device.
- actrpg_client_id (ACTventure, browser storage): the random ID used for the gameplay statistics above.
MatchPro and Plus One have their own sign-in, and Sections 1 to 7 apply to the accounts you create there.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
